Posh U18s secure victory over The Railwaymen at the idverde Training Ground.
Midfielder Harry Titchmarsh scored a brace as Peterborough United U18s secured three points over Crewe Alexandra U18s in the Under-18 Professional Development League on Saturday afternoon.
The victory over The Railwaymen saw Jamal Campbell-Ryce’s side climb upto third in the table, closing the gap on league leaders, Barnsley U18s, to seven points, but have played three more games.
The visitors opened the scoring on 15 minutes as Joseph Toynton’s pass was intercepted inside the box and their forward was on-hand to convert from close range. Posh brought the scores level on just five minutes before the break as Harley Mills’ cross from the left-hand side was guided home by Titchmarsh.
Posh took the lead on 59 minutes and it was Titchmarsh once again as Ben Challinor switched the ball out wide to the Trialist on the far left and his in-swinging cross was met by the head of the midfielder, and although the goalkeeper managed to push the ball away, the referee adjudged to have crossed the line.
Speaking on the game, Campbell-Ryce said: “That was probably our best performance of the season. We had complete control of the game and the players were fantastic, they put into practice everything we have been working on this season. Although we went one-nil down, there was no doubt in my mind that we would win the game, even in the last five to 10 minutes I still thought we had control.
“It was good to see Harry get two goals, I challenged him in his review to contribute a bit more. When he joined the club, he started off as a number four but in the last few months, we have started to move him further forward because of the energy he has. I’m delighted for him, top performance and two good goals.”
