Posh U18s fall to defeat to The Wakes on Tuesday evening.
Peterborough United Under 18s suffer a 2-1 defeat to Bourne Town in pre-season friendly on Tuesday evening at the Abbey Lawn.
Despite going 1-0 down in the first half, Posh created chances, with Joel Odei-Larbi and George Holley both coming close to scoring in the first half. The equaliser was scored by captain Tyler Winters, but The Wakes scored late on to clinch the victory.
It was a quiet first half, with the first Posh chance coming from Joel Odei-Larbi after he picked up a long ball from centre-back Luke Gilbert, but his shot from the edge of the box went over the crossbar.
The Posh midfield controlled the game well, with Max Beach and George Holley linking up with wingers Andre Changunda and Odei-Larbi to threaten the Bourne Town defence. However, the deadlock was broken by Bourne on 33 minutes as a free-kick to the back-post was headed home by Tom Edwards.
Posh looked to get back on level terms as Holley had a shot from range, but was straight into the hands of the Bourne goalkeeper. The chances continued for Posh as a counter-attack started by Joe Davies found Max Beach, who made a surging run forward, however, his pass towards the centre could not find one of his teammates.
Odei-Larbi looked to put pressure on the Bourne defence and he managed to force their goalkeeper into an error, the ball fell to Tyler Winters and he played it back to Odei-Larbi but failed to get his effort away.
Posh found the equaliser on 70 minutes as substitute Benji McWilliams-Marcano’s cross found Winters inside the box, his original effort was saved by the keeper but the forward fired home the rebound.
Shortly after, they nearly found the lead, after McWilliams-Marcano dribbled down the centre of the pitch and picked out Beach who tried to chip the goalkeeper unsuccessfully. The ball fell to him again and he finished into the empty net, however, the linesman ruled the goal offside.
The hosts found themselves back ahead on 82 minutes as Zak Munton received the ball inside the box from James Hill-Seekings and his effort towards the near-post found the back of the net.
Posh XI: Sakalas, Trialist, Trialist, Gilbert, Trialist, Holley, Beach, Unwin, Changunda, Winters, Odei-Larbi.
