Posh U21s return to Premier League Cup action on Monday evening.
Peterborough United U21s are back in Premier League Cup action on Monday evening (7pm) as they face Sunderland U21s at Eppleton CW in the second game of the group stage phase.
The under 21s suffered a narrow defeat in their opening game against Bristol City as a 95th-minute goal from The Robins secured the 4-3 victory, with Gabe Overton, Harry Titchmarsh and Kai Corbett netting the goals for Posh.
The Black Cats also suffered late heartbreak in matchday one, with Harvey White converting from spot in the 98th minute to win the game for Tottenham Hotspur U21s. They compete in the Premier League 2 Division One, currently sat ninth in the table and are unbeaten in their last four games.
U21s Lead Professional Development Phase Coach, Ryan Semple, said: “It’s a good opportunity for us to play against a good side and challenge ourselves. It’s a cup competition, where we had one game against Bristol City and conceded late and unfortunately lost the game. They are a hard-working side and have some really good players, they will look to play through the third but can also mix up their style and challenge you with long balls as well.
“It will be a test but every game is, different challenges that we will face and one the players will have to face up to when we have the ball. We are looking forward to a really good challenge, we don’t play Sunderland often, so excited about the opportunity to go there and put on a good performance.”
Midfielder Will Van Lier made his return last Tuesday against Barnsley U21s and is set to be involved once again on Monday evening as Semple confirmed everyone is available for the trip to Eppleton.
