Posh U21s to return to the Weston Homes Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.
Peterborough United U21s welcome Aston Villa U21s to the Weston Homes Stadium on Tuesday afternoon (1pm) in their fourth game of the Premier League Cup group phase.
The unders 21s currently sit third in the group and are still searching for their first victory in the competition after falling to a 3-2 defeat to Brentford B last time out in the competition, but will be looking to rediscover the performance that saw them pick up a point against Villa earlier in the season. Villa suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat to Blackburn Rovers in their previous game last month, sitting bottom of the group and level on points with Posh.
Defender Mackenzie Lamb still remains unavailable alongside Harry Thomas after he picked up an ankle injury and rules him out of the game at the Weston Homes Stadium, but a strong side is expected to feature against Villa.
Youth Development Lead Phase Coach Ryan Semple will take charge of the under 21s game, alongside Head of Academy Coaching Danny Walker, and has outlined that the team need to start picking up points in the competition but expects a tough game against the Premier League academy side.
Speaking ahead of the game, Semple said: “It goes without saying that Aston Villa’s history in their academy and the players at their disposal means it will be a tough game. We drew 1-1 in the last game against Aston Villa, which was our very first game in this competition, but we are at the halfway point now and need to start getting as many points on board as possible.
“In terms of the Brentford game, the mentality that we showed to stay in that game and to keep fighting, and we will have to show that in the game against Aston Villa to make sure we are competitive. We will look to do that and put in a good performance."
Tickets are now on sale at www.theposhtickets.com and via the Weston Homes Stadium Box Office. Admission is free for season ticket holders with adult tickets available for £3 and concessions (seniors and under 18s) at £1. The Main North Stand will be open for the fixture.
The game will be streamed live on Posh+ with commentary, and will be free for Posh+ subscribers or £3 for a match pass
