Posh U21s continue their impressive start to pre-season with a draw against Liverpool U21s.
Peterborough United U21s maintained their unbeaten start to pre-season after a 2-2 draw with Liverpool U21s in a behind-closed-doors friendly on Tuesday afternoon, with Gabe Overton and David netting the goals.
The hosts dominated the opening stages of the game and carved out the first opportunity on seven minutes as a low cross to the back-post met by their forward, but he couldn’t direct his effort on target.
However, it was Posh who opened the scoring on 12 minutes as the Trialist’s low cross was only cleared to Overton just inside the box and his effort found the back of the net via a deflection off the defender.
Sam Dreyer produced a fantastic goalline clearance as Jake West’s clearance fell to their forward, the Posh goalkeeper was caught off his line and Dreyer was on hand to clear the ball with his head off the line. The hosts grabbed the equaliser on 25 minutes as Roddy McGlinchey was caught in possession and the forward’s effort found the bottom corner.
The Reds struck the crossbar just after the half-hour mark before Torin Ntege fired over the bar after being picked out by Kawa. Posh retook the lead on 40 minutes as another low cross from Trialist caused havoc inside the hosts’ box and Kawa was on hand to force the ball home.
Posh made two changes at the break as Harry Titchmarsh and Reuben Marshall replaced Roddy McGlinchey and Overton. The Reds brought the scores level on 51 minutes following a header at the back-post.
A number of changes continued into the second half, with Harley Mills, Dennis Kelmendi, Janos Bodnar, Ashton Fox, Harry Thomas and Josh Marcon all introduced. West was out quickly to block an effort from close-range before a curling effort from the Trialist fell straight into the goalkeeper's hands.
Mills was inches away from reinstating Posh’s lead as his free-kick from the edge of the box glanced past the post. In the closing moments of the game, a low cross from Kelmendi picked out Marcon inside the box, but his first-time effort failed to test the goalkeeper.
Posh XI: West, Dornelly (Bodnar, 61 min), Arthur (Fox, 65min), Dreyer (Thomas, 65mim), Powell (Mills, 61min), McGlinchey (Titchmarsh, 46min), Chiha (Marcon, 65min), Trialist, Ntege (Kelmendi, 61min), Overton (Marshall, 46min (Darlington, 54min), Kawa.
