Posh U21s face The Blues in their next pre-season game.
Peterborough United U21s are set to travel to The Maurice Rebak Stadium to face Isthmian League Premier Division side Wingate & Finchley on Saturday (3pm) in their latest pre-season friendly.
The under 21s remain unbeaten in their pre-season schedule, most recently, securing a 4-0 win over St Ives Town on Tuesday evening with Gabe Overton and Torin Ntege both netting two goals. They have also beaten Whittlesey Athletic and Peterborough Sports, while being held by Liverpool U21s.
The Blues finished 16th in the league last season and will provide another challenging test for Posh youngsters to build preparations for the Professional Development League. Professional Development Coach, Ryan Semple, is expecting another tough test at The Maurice Rebak Stadium and has been pleased with the pre-season programme so far.
Semple said: “It will be another tough and physical test this weekend, just like Tuesday was despite the number of goals we scored. This game is a quick turnaround, but that is what pre-season is about as we are still building fitness and also trying to transfer what we are doing on the training ground into the matches. We are looking forward to the challenge.
“The players came back in good shape originally and have worked really hard in pre-season to build on that in the training sessions. They have been tested physically, mentally and tactically in all the games so far, but in the majority of those games, the players have shown that they have taken on board the information well and are ready to get the season started now.”
A similar squad is expected that faced St Ives Town on Tuesday evening is expected to travel to The Maurice Rebak Stadium, with a few under 18s set to join the squad. Semple said: “It will be a really good opportunity for the younger players to make the step up and be involved with the under 21s once again. They have done well already this pre-season and will have another chance to impress on Saturday."
