Posh U21s welcome QPR in Professional Development League season opener on Monday afternoon.
Peterborough United U21s kick off their 2022/23 Professional League Development campaign with a visit from Queens Park Rangers to the idverde Training Ground on Monday afternoon (2pm).
The under 21s side concluded their pre-season schedule on Tuesday with a 2-1 defeat to local non-league side Peterborough Sports, with a similar squad expected for Matthew Etherington’s side against The Hoops.
Andrew Oluwabori, who played 90 minutes on Tuesday evening at the Bee Arena, and János Bodnár won’t be involved after they both signed for Kettering Town on a youth loan and featured in their season opener against AFC Fylde, while Aaron Powell, who is also on loan at Dereham Town, will be available for the under 21s.
Etherington‘s side will be looking to improve on their league form after finishing sixth last season and has admitted that the group of players have set some high goals for the upcoming campaign.
Speaking ahead of the game, Etherington said: “We have had some strong pre-season games against men’s teams, that is always good for the players and has given them a taste of what to expect if they want to make that step up. But now, our focus is purely on the new campaign which starts against QPR, a game we have been looking forward to, but we need to take a few things away from the past few weeks that we didn’t do well and the players need to learn from those if we want to achieve our goals.
“We have set targets as a group, which I allowed the players to lead, and they have set some high targets, so they need to go out there and achieve them. We have a great group and I know they’re ready to hit the ground running in the season opener.”
Updates of tomorrow's game will be available on the club's main Twitter account (@theposh).
