The Posh Under 18s are sweating on the result of Mansfield Town's fixture with Luton Town, but did all they could to secure progress in the Professional Development League Cup with a thumping away win.
The Peterborough United Under 18s completed their side of the bargain in the quest to reach the knockout stages of the Professional Development League Cup with an excellent 4-1 victory at Ipswich Town on Friday afternoon with Jimmy Unwin's men coming from behind to take all three points, but they are still reliant on a result elsewhere going in their favour to secure qualification.
The Tractor Boys opened the scoring in the contest on 27 minutes, but by half-time, Posh had turned the game on it's head with quickfire goals from midfielder Eddie FOX and Patryk SYKUT.
Posh continued to create chances and added a third goal through Bolu SHOFOWOKE before substitute George HOLLEY put the gloss on the victory with an excellent free-kick.
Manager Unwin said: 'The boys were absolutely brilliant, and I mean the whole squad, not just the players that started the game. The attitude was first class and Ipswich couldn't live with us in terms of our game plan, we were very good with the ball and kept them quiet when they had possession.
"The team received quite a few compliments from the Ipswich Academy Director and Manager for the way that they went about their business. I was delighted with them. We just have to wait for the final group game to be concluded now, it could come down to goal difference, Mansfield are one goal ahead of us in terms of that, so we will see what the final result is."
Posh: Sakalas, Freeman, Gbajumo, Unwin (sub Holley 60min), Mendonca, Claxton, Davies, Fox, Shofowoke, Sykut, Changunda. Unused subs: Gilbert, Fitzpatrick, Aikins, McWilliams-Marcano.
