Posh Under 21s were beaten on Wednesday afternoon by Sheffield Wednesday 3-1 at the idverde Training Ground.
Visitors Sheffield Wednesday were comfortable winners on Wednesday afternoon as they beat the Posh Under 21s at the idverde Training Ground despite an excellent solo strike from Chris Conn-Clarke.
It was the away side who started the game brightly and they were rewarded for this on 11 minutes as Bruno FERNANDES put the ball in the net following a defensive mix up to give Sheffield Wednesday the lead. The Owls should have made it two shortly after but a fine stop from Bastian Smith saw the ball tipped onto the bar and the rebound from just yards out was sent over.
However, the score wasn’t 1-0 for long as the visitors doubled their lead on 21 minutes as KAMWA fired in from close range. Sheffield Wednesday added a third just three minutes later as PHUTNI wriggled through a number of players to put the Owls into a commanding lead.
A poor first half saw Posh go into the break with a lot of work to do and they started the second half perfectly as Chris CONN-CLARKE was played through on goal and he rounded the goalkeeper to get one back for the Posh.
Momentum started to build for Posh following the goal with both Fox and Mills having efforts on goal being denied. Shortly after David Kamara raced past his man but his shot flew over the crossbar.
Lead Professional Development Coach Ryan Semple gave an honest assessment of his side following the game saying: “We started the game really slow; we lacked many of the basics for the first 25 minutes and with the ball we didn’t keep the ball long enough or play it into the right areas to cause problems. After the break we saw a reaction, we scored early and it’s frustrating that we didn’t capitalise on that.”
Posh Under 21s are back in action next Tuesday as they visit Coventry City at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
