A youthful Under 21s side were handed a heavy defeat at Fleetwood Town, with former Posh midfielder Ryan Broom amongst the goals on Tuesday afternoon.
Posh made the trip looking to follow on from the 3-1 victory over Hull City last time out, where defender Emmanuel Fernandez popped up with a hat-trick against the Tigers.
Ryan Semple fielded a much less experienced side this time around, owing to the First Team’s Vertu Trophy semi-final tie at Wrexham on Wednesday, with Davon Gbajumo returning to the fold.
Paddy Lane provided the hosts with a platform from a set-piece which was later built upon when Ryan Broom netted on 37 minutes.
The second period continued to prove heavy on goalmouth action when Finlay Cross-Adair added a third following a well-worked move.
Fleetwood’s Trialist found a fourth midway through the half, before Crispin McLean completed the scoring with a neat free-kick.
Lead Professional Development Phase Lead Coach (U21s) Ryan Semple said: “Ultimately when you concede the goals we gave away today it is very difficult to create momentum to try and win a game of football. On the other side of that we have to take our own chances before their third goal to change the direction of the match, which we couldn’t do today.”
Our Under 21s will look to put the defeat behind them next Friday with a trip to the Steel City to face Sheffield Wednesday (2.30pm).
