Posh v Tottenham Hotspur

A look ahead to Tuesday night’s EFL Trophy group phase fixture with Tottenham Hotspur under 21s (7pm)

Peterborough United welcome Tottenham Hotspur under 21s to the Weston Homes Stadium on Tuesday evening (7pm) for the second group phase fixture of the EFL Trophy with Darren Ferguson’s men looking to all but secure their progression in the competition following an opening victory over Cambridge United on match day one.

Posh are currently second in the table behind Spurs with the final group fixture at Colchester United, who currently occupy third position with the U’s propping up the rest. If the tie is level after 90 minutes, there will be a penalty shoot out to determine who gets the bonus point.

TEAM NEWS

Posh are set to make plenty of changes to their line-up with goalkeeper Fynn Talley, defenders Zak Sturge and Romoney Crichlow, midfielder Ryan De Havilland striker Malik Mothersille all set to be involved against Spurs. Mothersille (pictured below) has featured for the under 21s but this is set to be his first appearance in the first team since his move ahead of the transfer deadline.

Jeando Fuchs, Will Blackmore and Archie Collins are unavailable with the latter still adhering to concussion rules following his substitution against Port Vale. Jacob Wakeling is cup-tied and will play 90 minutes for the under 21s against Sheffield United on Tuesday afternoon (1pm).

FROM THE MANAGER

“We expect Tottenham will have plenty of energy and pace but so do we. In fact it will be two young sides in action and I am looking forward to the game. In this competition, if you win the first two games in the group it allows you to go even younger in the final game and that is our aim. We want to win the game. It comes at a good time for some players in terms of minutes and I am looking forward to seeing Malik Mothersille in action. He hasn’t got a set time to last, we will see how he does,” Darren Ferguson said.
