Posh are off to Wembley for the second time in as many years after a dramatic win in North Wales winning 4-2 on penalties after a 2-2 draw.
Posh came from two goals down to level the game before they booked their place at Wembley after penalty shoot-out success over Wrexham.
Posh enjoyed plenty of possession but struggled to carve out clear opportunities in the opening minutes.
The first chance of the match fell to Fernandez at the back post, whose header from Mills’ corner was saved by Wrexham goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo.
Posh continued to apply pressure, with Wallin coming close from Mills’ free-kick, but their efforts were claimed once again by Okonkwo.
On 24 minutes, Jack Marriott found himself in behind but after excellent recovery work from Wallin, the danger was eradicated.
Despite Posh’s early promise, it was Wrexham who struck first. On 34 minutes, Mo FAAL looped a finish over Steer to put the home side ahead, before George DOBSON doubled their lead from close range shortly after.
With a mountain to climb at the break, Susoho and Ihionvien replaced Collins and Jones before Mills and Mothersille both saw chances as Posh searched for a way back into the game.
The breakthrough finally arrived on 72 minutes when Posh were awarded a penalty after Hayes was brought down by the keeper. MOTHERSILLE saw his initial effort saved but reacted well to slot home the rebound, setting up a tense final 20 minutes.
Posh cut it close and pressed hard to search for an equaliser until super-sub Bradley IHIONVIEN took a clever touch and slotted home from Kyprianou’s header in the 91st minute, sending the game to penalties.
Posh goalkeeper Jed Steer produced heroics, saving efforts from Mullin and Lee, while Ihionvien, De Havilland, Mills and skipper Kyprianou found the back of the net. It was 4-2 on penalty kicks for Posh, sealing their place in the Vertu Trophy Final at Wembley.
