Posh Women exit Adobe Women’s FA Cup in the second round at the hands of Rugby Borough,

Peterborough United Women fell to a 7-1 defeat against Northern Premier Division side Rugby Borough in miserable conditions at Nationwide Windows Arena on Sunday afternoon in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup second round, with Ella Bale’s goal in injury time a consolation goal for Jake Poole’s side.

The hosts opened the scoring inside the opening five minutes as Angelina Nixon found Yasmin Mosby in the centre who slotted into the net past Neive Corry from close range. Rugby continued to threaten and doubled their lead after 20 minutes as Corry’s kick ricocheted off Mosby into an empty net.

Posh saw their first sight at goal straight after kick-off as Tara Kirk broke free from her marker, she curled an effort at goal but it was collected well by Anna Pedersen. Minutes later the home side extended their lead as Mai Moncaster converted from close range. Posh hit the crossbar shortly after as Meg Lawlor’s cross was met powerfully by Evie Driscoll-King, but her effort rattled the woodwork.

The hosts added a fourth after the half hour mark as Moncaster found the back of the net with a header from just inside the box. Corry was called into action on the stroke of half time as the hosts’ looked to curl an effort into the bottom left corner, but the Posh shot-stopper dived down well to parry the ball away.

Posh started the second half well as Kirk beat Pedersen to a fifty-fifty ball but could only drag her effort across goal. Rugby continued to pressurise the Posh defence as Mosby scored her third of the game from a long-range lob. The woodwork rattled again minutes later as Moncaster struck from the edge of the box.

The hosts added a sixth as Nicky Potts scored with 20 minutes left on the clock. Good footwork from Hayley James allowed her to find Renai Bennett in the box but she couldn’t keep her effort down at the other end.

Jessica Camwell finished the scoring off for the hosts late on with a great strike from a tight angle. Ella BALE netted a consolation goal for Posh in stoppage time from close range.

Posh Women are next in action on Sunday 8th December (2pm) at Abbey Lawn as they host Worcester City in FAWNL Division One Midlands.
