Posh Women fall to defeat in County Cup Final to local rivals Northampton Town.
Peterborough United Women fell to a 3-1 defeat in the Northants FA Cup Final against Northampton Town Women on Sunday afternoon at the Dog & Duck Stadium, with a consolation goal from Tara Kirk.
The Posh Women started strongly with Zaiga Lacite curling an effort wide inside the opening three minutes after the game, but it was the Cobblers’ who opened the scoring in the 5th minute as Jade BELL advanced through on goal before calmly slotting the ball past Corry. Northampton Town doubled their lead three minutes later as Alex DICKS beat Corry to the ball and tapped in from yards out.
The game began to stretch with Dicks dragging her shot wide before a scramble at the other end finished with Kirk firing her effort over the crossbar. Posh halved the deficit just after the half hour mark as Driscoll-King advanced into the box, she played the ball across to Tara KIRK who beat the defender before slotting the ball into the bottom right corner.
Both sides came out strongly in the second half but failed to test either goalkeeper. Just after the hour mark, Corry tipped Mia Richards’ free-kick over the bar. The Cobbler’s extended their lead shortly after with Kim FARROW latching on to a poor defensive clearance, before firing into the top right corner past the diving Corry.
Brett advanced forward before teeing the ball of to Kirk who forced Mclean to tip the ball over the crossbar. With ten minutes of additional time, the Cobbler’s stood strong and withheld any threat from the Posh.
