Posh Women fall to defeat in first game of 2025.
Peterborough United Women left the Amber Arena and Community Stadium empty handed as they fell to a 1-0 defeat against Boldmere St Michaels in their first FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands fixture of 2025.
It was a strong start from the hosts as they forced Neive Corry into action in the opening minutes with an effort from the edge of the box.
Posh soon saw their first sight at goal as Lauren Wilshaw’s corner was headed into the side netting by Poppie Brown.
Corry saved a free-kick before Tara Kirk’s volley was kept out by Jodie Whiteman on 9 minutes.
Chances continued to be created as Meg Lawlor saw her free-kick rise above the crossbar, before Corry kept out an unorthodox effort from the hosts.
On the stroke of half time, the Mikes took the lead as Ridhi RUPARELIA curled her corner directly into the goal.
It was a positive start to the second-half for Posh as Captain Keir Perkins saw a goal ruled offside after having being played through on the left.
On 49 minutes, Brown struck from distance but saw her effort rise above the woodwork before Lawlor’s corner was caught on the goal line by Whiteman. Minutes later, Perkins clipped the top netting with an effort on the edge of the box.
Soon after, the hosts searched for a second goal with a low ball across goal but no one could latch on at the far post.
With 15 minutes left on the clock, Posh caused havoc from a corner; the ball fell invitingly to Driscoll-King inside the 18-yard box but her effort was blocked by the hosts.
Substitutes Ella Bale and Katie Middleton combined as the former knocked the ball on, but Middleton’s effort was deflected wide by the host's defence to deny Posh an equaliser.
Jake Poole’s side are in action next Sunday afternoon as they host Thrapston Town Ladies in the Northamptonshire County Cup.
