Posh Women Development Squad secured an emphatic victory over Coalville Town Ravenettes.
Peterborough United Women Development Squad made it four consecutive wins in the East Midlands Women’s Regional Football Division One South after a comfortable 6-1 victory over Coalville Town Ravenettes on Sunday afternoon, with forward Aliyah Palmer claiming four goals and a 30-yard screamer from Hannah Murphy.
Posh were lively from the start and created their first opportunity on seven minutes as Murphy’s cross found Alice Macnicol in the box, who controlled the ball but scuffed her effort. However, it wasn’t long before Posh broke the deadlock as Murphy’s through ball found Palmer on the left, who cut inside and curled her effort into the bottom right corner.
Shaun Harley’s side continued to press forward after taking the lead and missed several chances from dangerous deliveries sent into the box by Kacey Sharman. On 24 minutes, Posh were awarded a penalty after a Coalville defender handled the ball inside the box and Alice MACNICOL stepped up to convert the spot-kick. Coalville Town pulled one back on 34 minutes as the Posh backline was caught out of possession, allowing the Coalville Town forward to slot the ball home past Danni Cooper-King.
Posh started strongly after the break and, on 64 minutes, reinstated their two-goal advantage as PALMER capitalised on a counter-attack and slotted the ball into the bottom left corner after she was found by Macnicol’s header. PALMER secured her hat-trick on 74 minutes as she beat the offside trap before curling her effort into the bottom right corner.
The goal fest continued for PALMER as she was played through once again by Murphy, took the ball around the Coalville goalkeeper to the ball and calmly slotted the ball into the net to make it five for Posh. The goal of the day, however, was scored by MURPHY on 84 minutes as her curling effort from the edge of the box found the top right corner.
Speaking after the game, Palmer said: “I’m pretty happy with my performance. I feel I could have had a few more goals, especially in the first half, but I’m delighted to have netted a hat-trick. The performance has definitely given me a confidence boost to continue scoring more goals, week in and week out. Alice is very good and has a very powerful shot, as she showed by her penalty, and I think we have gelled up-front quite well.”
