Posh Women end their 2022/23 campaign with a victory over Loughborough Foxes Vixens.
Peterborough United Women concluded their East Midlands Women’s Regional Football League Division One South campaign with a 3-0 victory over Loughborough Foxes Vixens at the idverde Training Ground on Sunday afternoon.
Posh started the game strongly as Alicia Podd had the first chance of the game, but her effort from the edge of the box just went wide. Anderia Oliveria forced the keeper into a low save on eight minutes as her low-driven effort was parried away by the keeper.
The deadlock was broken on 14 minutes as the Loughborough Foxes’ goalkeeper pushed away Oliveria’s cross into the path of Taya Smith and she forced the ball home from close-range to hand Shaun Harley’s side the lead.
Posh continued to control the tempo of the game for the rest of the first half, but a curling effort from Podd was the only other notable chance before the break. Smith was close to doubling her tally minutes into the second half as her header from Podd’s cross glanced just wide of the far-post.
Ellie Curson saw her free-kick pushed over the bar by the goalkeeper as Posh continued to push for their second goal of the afternoon. That eventually came on 62 minutes as some great build-up play found Podd and her shot found the top corner from a tight angle.
On 75 minutes, Posh were awarded a penalty after Palmer was tripped inside the box. She stepped up to take the spot-kick, but sent her shot over the crossbar. The visitors had their first opportunity of the game on 82 minutes as an effort from distance was parried away by Danni Cooper-King. With only three minutes of play remaining, Palmer redeemed herself and made it 3-0 for Posh as she advanced into the box before slotting the ball into the bottom right corner.
