Posh Women Development Squad suffer heavy defeat at the idverde Training Ground.
Peterborough United Women Development Squad suffered a 6-2 defeat to Northampton Town Women Development Squad on Sunday afternoon in their final game of 2022 in the East Midlands Women’s Regional Football League.
Goalkeeper Neive Corry was forced into an early save, getting down low to push away a strike from Northampton Town forward. After a scrappy opening stages of the game, it was the visitors who broke the deadlock on 20 minutes as an effort from distance flew over Corry and fell into the back of the net via the underside of the crossbar.
Posh looked for an equalizer in the closing minutes of the first half as Ellie Curson, who was making her senior debut for the Development Squad after being promoted from Emerging Talent Centre, saw her effort from the edge of the box smash against the crossbar.
However, Shaun Harley’s side found the equalizer in the opening five minutes of the second half and it was a fantastic strike from midfielder Nicole Hendrick, who collected the ball and unleashed a strike from around 25 yards out, which found the top corner.
The visitors instantly replied and got back ahead just a minute later as a perfectly weighted ball found their striker through on-goal and she slotted the ball into the bottom left corner. Posh brought the game level once again just before the half an hour mark as Hendrick advanced into the box before lifting the ball over the keeper and into the bottom corner.
But, once again, that was short-lived as The Cobblers retook the lead within a minute later before adding a fourth on 80 minutes. Things didn’t get much better for the depleted Posh side as two more goals in the final five minutes to be condemned to a 6-2 defeat in their final game of the year.
