Posh Women Development Squad begin their League Cup campaign on Sunday afternoon.
The Posh Women Development Squad travel to Arnold Eagles Women’s FC on Sunday afternoon (1:30pm) in the first round of the East Midlands Women’s Regional Football League Cup.
Shaun Harley’s side enter the game on the back of three successive wins in the league, including a 3-1 victory over Thrapston Town ladies last weekend to push them up to second in the table.
It’s only the second year that the squad will be involved in the league cup and will be looking to improve on last season’s run, where they lost in the first round to Thrapston Town Ladies 4-3.
The Development Squad will face tough opposition though with Arnold Eagles Women’s First Team, who are one-step league above in the East Midlands Premier Division. However, Arnold Eagles have experienced a difficult start to their season as they sit bottom of their league, with three losses from three, two goals scored and 11 conceded, but manager Harley is expecting a tough afternoon for his players.
Harley said: “I’m expecting it to be a difficult game. Arnold Eagles are in the league above us and have a lot of experience in their squad. They are bottom of the league at the moment, but that’s very false as they have played tight games against those at the top of their division.”
“We are unfortunately very light on Sunday with players unavailable including a few picking up unfortunate injuries. If the girls keep doing what they have been doing, then we will put in a hard-fought performance. We’ve got nothing to lose so we’ll see.”
