Posh Women Development Squad begin pre-season preparations with a trip to Thrapston Town Ladies.
Peterborough United Women’s Development Squad travel to Castle Playing Field to face Thrapston Town Ladies tomorrow evening as part of their preparations for the East Midlands Women’s Regional Football League campaign, which will begin on Sunday 4th September.
Shaun Harley’s side face five pre-season friendlies at this moment in time, including trips to Oakham Ladies (27th July), Aylsham Women (31st July), Histon FC (7th August) and Lincoln United (28th August).
Tomorrow’s visit to Thrapston Town Ladies will be the first opportunity for Harley to look over his newly assembled squad, with players from Whittlesey Athletic alongside a couple of Posh U16 Foundation graduates set to feature for the first time.
Harley said ahead of the game: “I’m so excited that we have reached the first game of pre-season. It has been a really good pre-season and there’s a good vibe around the team at the moment. From a managerial point of view, it’s the perfect opportunity to have a look at some of the new players and see how the whole squad comes together in their first game. If the players turn up with the attitude they have shown in pre-season training, then tomorrow should be a good test, but we do have a lot of players that we have to manage.
“There will be around 20 players available for us, which could give us the option of fielding two different starting elevens for each half and allow every player to get as many minutes as possible. That’s the objective of the next few games, improving fitness. While you always want to win games, pre-season for me is about getting the players up to speed and ready for the new campaign.”
