Posh Women Development Squad Beaten By The Foxes.
A depleted Peterborough United Women Development Squad suffered a heavy 7-0 defeat to Leicester City Ladies on Sunday afternoon in the East Midlands Women’s Regional Football League Division One South.
Leicester City Ladies opened the scoring within the opening two minutes as a corner was converted past goalkeeper Danni Cooper-King. Posh looked for a quick response as Eleanor Scotland’s effort from inside the box forced The Foxes' keeper into a good save.
Hannah Murphy then took aim from distance, but her 25-yard effort failed to test the keeper and went well over the bar. The hosts extended their advantage on 19 minutes as a pass found their forward inside the box, who calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner.
Edyn Osker tried to cut the deficit for Posh as her effort forced the keeper into another low save. It quickly became three for The Foxes as their forward advanced down the left before firing the ball into the top corner from the edge of the box. With half-time approaching, The Foxes made it four as a long-range effort found the top left corner.
Things didn’t get much better for Posh after the break as the hosts extended their lead on 47 minutes and quickly netted their sixth within seconds, scoring straight from kick-off. The Foxes made it seven as a free-kick from the edge of the box found the back of the net.
Posh were down to 10 players for the last half an hour of the game after Kacey Sharman was shown a straight red card for an aggressive tackle. Scotland raced through on-goal, but the keeper was out quickly to block her effort before Scotland was awarded a free-kick, which was comfortable for the keeper.
Posh XI: Cooper-King, Harley, Johnson, Barnes, Wheatly, Richard-Reeves, Murphy, King, Osker, Sharman, Scotland.
Subs: Gussin.
