Posh Women V Solihull Moors

Posh Women put in five star performance against The Moors in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands.

Peterborough United Women put in a five star display against Solihull Moors on Sunday afternoon at a blustery Abbey Lawn with a 5-0 victory courtesy of braces from Niamh Reynolds and Renai Bennett, with Keir Perkins also netting for Posh.

It was a quick start from Posh as Perkins advanced on the right in the opening 60 seconds before sending a low cross into the box, but Wilshaw was inches away from connecting. Perkins sent another inviting ball into the six-yard area but no Posh players could find the target.

On 7 minutes, Corry was called into action as the Moors struck from distance, before Kirk ricocheted an effort off the crossbar moments later from the edge of the box.

Jake Poole was forced into an early change as Poppie Brown came on for the injured Kayleigh Hines.

Posh opened the scoring on 13 minutes as a free-kick was headed in by BENNETT.

Five minutes later, Posh extended their lead as REYNOLDS slotted into the net following good initial play on the left from Osker and Wilshaw.

Soon after, Wilshaw searched for another assist as she found Kirk inside the box but her effort was blocked from close-range.

Just before the half-hour mark, Marsha Malik collected the ball on the edge of the Posh area, she struck towards the far post but her effort was straight into the hands of Corry.

Wilshaw’s great footwork set her free on goal but her effort went wide of the post before Perkins finished her run into the box and flashed the side netting.

Posh continued their form in the second-half and were awarded a penalty on 53 minutes as Kirk was pulled down in the box. BENNETT stepped up and calmly slotted into the bottom left corner to claim her second of the game.

Just after the hour mark, Poole made a flurry of changes as Evie Driscoll-King, Emily Sharpe, Emily Meli and Ella Bale were all called into action.

Substitutes Meli and Bale instantly made an impact as they both fired efforts straight at the goalkeeper within minutes of their introduction.

On 70 minutes, Meli found Perkins at the far post but she couldn’t direct her effort at goal.

A cross from Perkins was taken by the wind towards goal but was punched off the line by the Moors' keeper.

The goals kept flying in at Abbey Lawn as on 82 minutes REYNOLDS advanced through the Moors' defence before driving the ball into the bottom corner.

Minutes later, Meg Lawlor’s free-kick was headed on at the far post by Emily Sharpe, causing havoc in the six-yard box before eventually finding its way into the net by PERKINS to net the fifth goal for Posh.

Posh looked for a sixth in stoppage time as Driscoll-King’s backheel fed Bale free at goal but the goalkeeper dived down well.

Posh are next in FAWNL action on Sunday 9th March (2pm) as they travel to Sutton Coldfield Town.

Posh: Corry, James (sub Driscoll-King, 63min), Connor (sub Sharpe, 63min), Osker, Lawlor, Hines (sub Brown, 13min), Bennett, Reynolds, Perkins, Kirk (sub Bale, 63min), Wilshaw (sub Meli, 63min).
