A brace from Katie Middleton and goals from Ella-Mai Bale, Evie Driscoll-King and Tara Kirk saw Peterborough United Women secure a 5-0 victory over Burton Albion at Deeping Rangers FC on Sunday afternoon, to progress into the First Round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup.
Posh’s FA Cup journey began with a promising ball over the top from Connor that found Wilshaw on the break, but the midfielder’s early effort went narrowly wide of the post.
The visitor’s goalkeeper made some impressive saves throughout the game, including tipping another strike from Wilshaw over the bar on 4 minutes. Soon after, Tatarczuk parried away a chance from Bale on the edge of the box, who tried to chip the keeper.
Perkins and Middleton saw encouraging chances miss the target, before Bennett’s free-kick entered a crowded box, but despite it seeming goal-bound, Burton defended well on 20 minutes.
Posh opened the scoring on 22 minutes with Reynolds sending a wonderful cross into MIDDLETON who striked into the net from close-range.
Minutes later, BALE claimed her first senior goal for Posh Women after heading home from Wilshaw’s corner ball to extend the lead.
Posh soon made it three on 32 minutes, with DRISCOLL-KING finding a gap to tap home amongst a goalmouth scramble.
Tatarczuk made a great save to deny an effort from Wilshaw, before Perkins' cross found MIDDLETON at the back post for her to head home before the break.
Bennett saw the first clear chance of the second-half, but her free-kick skimmed the crossbar.
On 61 minutes, Kirk chased Pim's cross into the box and her header was saved, before Connor had to step off the pitch to receive treatment for a face injury.
The defender returned to the pitch moments after Wilshaw's long-range effort went wide of the far post.
Brown also attempted to strike from distance, but her shot went over the bar on 80 minutes.
Posh netted a fifth goal on 89 minutes with Middleton's cross causing chaos in the box, and despite the visitors' initial blocks, substitute Tara KIRK converted amongst the crowd.
