Posh Women secured their place in the next round of FA Women’s National League Cup thanks to a brace from Keir Perkins.

An own goal from the visitors and a brace from the captain saw Peterborough United Women secure a 3-0 victory over Lincoln United at the Abbey Lawn on Thursday evening, to progress into the next round of the FA Women’s National League Cup.

Posh created a few opportunities in the opening minutes, with early strikes from Bale that were well-blocked by goalkeeper Amy Hood.

On 5 minutes, Perkins found the end of a through-ball and slotted her chance into the back of the net, but the linesman adjudged the forward to be offside.

Pim looked to break the deadlock on 18 minutes after some great work down the left, she cut inside and sent an effort towards goal, but her shot was blocked. The rebound fell to Bennett whose shot went just wide of the post. Minutes later Perkins fired another chance from the edge of the box, but the ball found the top of the net.

The Whites defended well throughout the first half and made it difficult for both Bennett and Pim to tap home from Perkin’s numerous crosses into the box.

After a close chance for Lincoln from a freekick, Reynolds weaved her way down the right and picked out Pim, but the youngster’s shot was parried away by Hood.

In the 45th minute, Olivia Smith’s strike found the back of the net from a freekick, but The Whites' effort was also ruled offside.

Bale saw two opportunities just before the half-time whistle, but remarkably Hood denied her efforts.

The deadlock was broken on 47 minutes after Bale’s cross was taken down by Pim in a crowded box, but it was Lincoln’s defender who got the last touch that gave Posh the lead.

On 58 minutes Perkins extended Posh’s advantage after Bale’s run was blocked by Hood and the ball fell to PERKINS who fired home.

Six minutes later, Meli cut back to find PERKINS inside the box again where she sliced another shot home to claim her fourth goal of the season.

After working hard to keep Corry idle down the other end, Sharpe looked to have netted another for Posh on 74 minutes from a corner ball, but her header was well kept out by Hood. Middleton continued to test the keeper until the final whistle, but her powerful strikes were denied.

Posh Women are back in league action on Sunday afternoon (2pm) where they face Barnsley at the Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park.
