Posh Women

Posh Women begin campaign with 4-1 victory over Worcester City.

Jake Poole started his managerial role off with a 4-1 victory over newly promoted Worcester City at the Sixways Stadium on Sunday afternoon, after a brace from Tara Kirk and strikes from Keir Perkins and Renai Bennett.

Posh opened the scoring in the FAWNL division in just the fourth minute as Tara KIRK’s shot from the edge of the box was too much for Kirsty Bridgwater to keep out. Posh latched onto a poor clearance before KIRK added her second of the game as she slotted into the bottom right corner.

Lauren Wilshaw’s in-swinging corner was well met by Kirk but her header was cleared off the line by the hosts defence. Just before the half hour mark, Posh increased their lead as Keir PERKINS curled an effort into the top right corner. Perkins almost turned provider as she squared the ball to Wilshaw but she fired her effort inches over the crossbar.

The hosts came out on the attack in the second half with Evie Driscoll-King making a block yards from goal following an inviting low cross into the box. Niamh Reynolds looked to have scored a fourth from outside the box but the referee had just blown for a foul on Katie Middleton in the build-up, minutes before Kirk’s claim for a hat-trick was ruled out for offside.

Annie Highway volleyed just wide of the post from 30 yards out for the hosts. The Blues’ had a chance to reduce the deficit as Leah Ritson blazed over the bar after being found in space in the box from Jess Fassnidge.

An instant impact from Renai BENNETT just after the hour mark, as Megan Lawlor’s corner was met by Tara Kirk before Bennett struck powerfully from yards out into the top netting. Kirk almost claimed goal of the season as she volleyed from 18 yards out but it struck the post before Bridgwater claimed.

Jess FASSNIDGE gained a consolation late on as she advanced forward before slotting into the bottom left corner past Neive Corry.
