Posh Women have bolstered their midfield options with the signing of Marthina Aguirre.
The 23-year-old has enjoyed previous spells with Eagle FC in the United States Women’s League and in her home country with Independiente del Valle, including finishing in the top four of the US Women’s League with the former.
Aguirre has represented Ecuador at youth level from the age of 13 before receiving her first senior call-up in 2020.
The midfielder most recently played for Ecuador in April, and was a part of the 2022 Copa America squad for the ‘Yellow Avalanches.’
Aguirre is excited to get started at the club: “I can’t wait to get involved, meet the girls and to have the opportunity to play in England. I want to give the best I can for the team; to grow my game and hopefully we can achieve the goals we have set.”
Manager Jake Poole added: “I know Marthina well, she’s an experienced senior international and this is really exciting opportunity for her to experience English football. She’s a player with lots of quality who has trained with us for the last couple of weeks. She’s a great person and a great player, and we’re really lucky to have her with us.”
Aguirre will wear the number 28 shirt for the FA Women’s National League campaign and will be in contention for this weekend’s Adobe Women’s FA Cup Second Round clash with Rugby Borough at Nationwide Windows Arena (2pm).
