Posh Women secure their place in the Northamptonshire County Cup Final.
A brace from Ella Bale and further goals from Keir Perkins, Renai Bennett and Rebecca Mears secured Jake Poole’s side a 5-0 win over Wellingborough Town Ladies on Sunday afternoon at the Dog & Duck Stadium in the Northamptonshire County Cup semi-final.
It was a strong start from Posh as a long distance shot from Jess Abrantes was well handled by Erica Turner before a lob from the hosts outwitted Neive Corry but failed to hit the target.
Posh struck the crossbar inside ten minutes as Perkins was fed through on goal on the left, she unleashed from a tight angle but saw her effort ricochet off the woodwork.
Posh broke the deadlock on 17 minutes as Edyn Osker sent a looping ball to Perkins on the left, who squared the ball to BENNETT in the middle and fired past Turner.
Just before the half hour mark, Posh doubled their lead as PERKINS advanced once again onto a forward ball and beat the goalkeeper before she created a better angle and fired into the net with the helping from a Wellingborough defender.
The celebrations continued as BALE added a third on 34 minutes after a shot from Abrantes was deflected into her path for her to slot through the legs of Turner.
Two minutes later, Posh extended their lead as the ball found MEARS in the centre of the box who slotted into the bottom left corner.
Posh continued their momentum into the second half and added a fifth three minutes after the restart as an initial shot from Hayley James was deflected twice by the hosts into the path of BALE, who buried into the top netting from close range for her second of the game.
Chances continued to be created as substitute Lauren Wilshaw’s corner was eventually met by Mears but her effort was straight at Turner.
The hosts had a taste of goal before the hour mark as a corner fell kindly to substitute Holly Moore but she failed to test Corry in between the sticks.
Perkins searched for her second of the game as she sent the hosts’ defender to the floor with a fine dribble at goal but dragged her effort wide of the target.
Posh looked for a sixth late on as Wilshaw’s in-swinging corner was punched off the line by Turner before Bale’s cross to the far post was inches away from a connection from Perkins.
Posh Women are next in action this weekend as they face Lincoln United on the road on Sunday afternoon (2pm).
