Posh Women U23s host Watford FC Development on Sunday afternoon in their latest pre-season fixture.
Peterborough United Women U23s continue their pre-season schedule on Sunday afternoon (3pm) as they face FA Women’s National League Reserve South East & Central Division side Watford FC Development at the idverde Training Ground.
The under 23s have begun their pre-season undefeated, having won their opening game 2-0 and drawing last weekend against Kettering Town 2-2, whilst also producing fine performances during a six-a-side tournament at Thrapston Town.
Posh played well against Kettering Town last Sunday, but were pegged back twice having taken the lead on two occasions via goals from Maddison Moore and Zina Cheikh.
Opponents Watford FC Development will provide Michael Allesbrook’s side with a first opportunity at what the National League Reserve side is like having finished fourth last season, accumulating 11 wins from 20 games.
Over pre-season Watford have appointed Renee Hector as head coach and several members of the Development squad have represented their countries at the youth level, including Portugal U18s Jess Monteiro and Cyprus U18s Sophie Dionissiou, whilst the Posh u23s will also need to watch out for Reserve South East & Central Division golden boot winner Lilly Dolling.
Michael Allesbrook spoke before the game: “Sunday is going to be a really tough test for us and will provide a measure of where we are as a team currently and what to expect from the new league we will be going into. We’ve played two good sides so far, but Watford are going to be a step up in quality as we know they have talented players.”
“We will go into Sunday’s fixture with a bigger team. Some players are carrying niggles but equally we have players returning from holidays. I’d like the players to play with the ball better in possession based on last weekend. We need to be more patient with our build-up play and not rush trying to get the ball into the box. It will be a difficult game as we know Watford will press us but we will prepare for Sunday in the best way we can.”
Supporters will be able to attend the pre-season fixture at the idverde Training Ground free of charge.
