Posh Women U23s continue their pre-season schedule as they are set to attend Thrapston Town’s six-a-side tournament.
Peterborough United Women U23s are set to attend Thrapston Town’s six-a-side tournament on Sunday afternoon (1-5pm) at the Castle Playing Field, with two teams entering the competition.
The Posh Women U23s began their pre-season with a 2-0 win over Histon Ladies last weekend courtesy of strikes from Ellie Curson and Taya Smith, and will be looking for positive performances again this weekend.
Manager, Michael Allsebrook, said: “It’s involving the girls in a different level of fitness to an 11-a-side game, which is more cardio-based. These six-a-side games will be more about the players twisting and turning, reacting and short sprints, so it will provide the girls with both fitness and technical challenges.
“The tournament isn’t a conventional pre-season activity, but we still feel it’s going to give the team a lot of benefits from participating. Players will need to start the matches well as they only last for eight minutes.”
“We’ve got a few of the squad unavailable due to holidays and first-team call-ups, but that’s a normal thing to occur during pre-season. We’ll be hoping to travel with 14-15 players, I’m really happy with the team we have got. It’s an opportunity to get more minutes under the players' belts. We’re going there with two teams with the aim of doing well."
