Posh Women Under 23s Defeated in Reserves League Cup.

Peterborough United Women bowed out of the FA Women’s National League Reserves Cup on Sunday afternoon at St Josephs’ College as they lost 7-0 to Ipswich Town Development in the quarter-final stages.

It was a prompt start from the hosts as Lottie Barker called Megan Dellar into early action from close range. The Tractor girls then continued with good momentum and opened the scoring in the fourth minute as Erin WILLIAMS netted within a crowded box from a corner ball.

Posh carved their first chance of the game on 15 minutes after Ellie Curson fired from distance but Tyril Bell tipped her effort around the post. Shortly after, the hosts doubled their lead with BARKER slotting in from close range at the far post.

Minutes later, Curson’s low free-kick was met by Bell, before Dellar was forced into a fine double save in quick succession.

Posh began to settle more in the first-half as the ball was fed to Taya Smith but her effort was pushed round the post by Bell once again. Ipswich added a third on the stroke of half-time as Bell’s kick was met by the attacking KING who slotted in past Dellar.

On the hour mark, Rebecca Mears tested from outside the box but her effort skimmed the top netting and a few minutes later, Curson struck the woodwork from a tight angle.

The Tractor girls’ continued to create chances and extended their lead with 20 minutes from time as Frankie WILLIAMS tapped in from close range following a great initial save from Dellar.

The hosts secured their place in the Reserves Cup semi-finals with more goals in the final minutes; KING striking twice from close range before WILLIAMS completed the scoring with a header.

Maddie Moore searched for a late consolation goal for Posh as she tested Bell from distance in stoppage time.
