Posh Women Under 23s defeated 2-0 in Northamptonshire County Cup.
Peterborough United Women Under 23s fell to a 2-0 defeat by Wellingborough Town Ladies on Sunday afternoon at the Dog & Duck Stadium in the Third Round of the Northamptonshire County Cup.
It was a strong start from Posh in their first outing of 2025 as Smith and Oliver both created chances inside the opening 10 minutes, with the latter forcing the goalkeeper into action.
On 17 minutes minutes, Iyawa directed her free-kick into the palms of the goalkeeper, before Riley fired over the crossbar a few minutes later.
Goalkeeper Smith was forced into action just before the half hour mark as the hosts began to take a hold of the game. Smith parried a long-range shot out for a corner, before diving low to stop the forward from a breakthrough from the subsequent set-piece.
Posh's keeper continued to deny the hosts the lead before half time, and made successive saves from close-range before Biggadike eventually cleared the ball to safety.
After the break, Moore curled an effort wide of the post, before Akinyemi drove an effort wide of the post soon after.
It was the hosts who eventually broke the deadlock with a quarter of an hour left on the clock; Smith and her defence made several goal-line clearances before Wellingborough eventually bundled the ball across the line.
The hosts then doubled their lead on 86 minutes with a long-range strike.
Posh sought a consolation goal in the final minutes, but Riley and Oliver couldn't find the net despite good initial work from debutants Elle Ford and Lola Cook.
Posh Women Under 23s are next in action on Sunday as they travel to Sutton Coldfield Town Development.
