The visitors took the lead inside the opening five minutes before Michael Allsebrook’s side gained a hold of the game. On the half hour mark, Alice Akinyemi advanced down the right before finding Georgie OLIVER, who slotted the ball past the goalkeeper from just inside the box.
Posh took the lead just before the interval as Ellie Curson intercepted a poor defensive pass before advancing forward and linking with Maddie Moore in the box with the ball eventually falling to MEARS who made no mistake with her finish.
The second half was competitive throughout before The Royals’ levelled with 10 minutes to go. Two substitutes combined for Posh in stoppage time as Emily Meli advanced down the right and found Taya SMITH who made no mistake.
Manager Michael Allsebrook spoke said: “I’m absolutely delighted with the result. To win in the last minute is always a brilliant feeling but considering the balance of the game we thoroughly deserved the three points. Fair play to Sutton Coldfield; they were a physical side who had a clear style of play and they caused us problems but, on the whole, we dealt with their threat well. Their two goals have come from small lapses of concentration that get punished at this level so we need to learn from that.
“We missed a number of good chances but the girls’ showed resilience and were rewarded for our desire and ambition to win the game. It keeps our good run of form going and all of the hard work everyone has put in continues to pay off. We are under no illusion though how tough this league is and we know that we have to keep pushing as hard as we can to continue to pick up points. We have really good competition for places across the squad and everyone knows that they have to continue brining the highest of standards every week.”
