Posh Women U23s

Peterborough United Women Under 23s suffer 3-2 defeat on the road to Sutton Coldfield Town Development.

Despite efforts from Jess Abrantes and Taya Smith, Posh Women Under 23s fell to a narrow defeat to The Royals on Sunday afternoon at the Dominos Arena.

The hosts went into the break with a 2-1 lead with ABRANTES netting for Posh from 30-yards out to find the top corner.

On 57 minutes, SMITH found an equaliser from Abrantes' corner ball, where she headed home just outside the 6-yard box.

However, Sutton Coldfield claimed the winning goal on 69 minutes to claim all three points.

Manager Michael Allsebrook spoke about his side's performance, he said: “We were really unlucky with the result today. I thought for large parts of the game we were in control and created a number of openings but we didn’t quite have the cutting edge at the top end of the pitch to make the chances count. We made some errors at the back and at this level those mistakes get punished and that in the end decided the result today. Three of the back five today are under 18 so they will make mistakes at times but they are a really resilient set of players and they will learn from this."

“I cannot be prouder of the 11 today though. Performance wise we deserved to win the game and I can never fault the work rate and desire from any of them. We were down to a bare 11 through a mixture of illness and unavailability but I have always maintained how much this club values commitment and that is what this 11 and a couple of others have shown both today and throughout the season."

"It’s been a tough run where we haven’t been quite able to knit together a complete 90-minute performance and be effective at both ends away from home, but I know that we are really close and we have more opportunities before the season ends to earn that away win our efforts thoroughly deserve.”
