Alex O’Neill becomes Peterborough United Women’s seventh signing of the summer.

The 23-year-old has appeared in various friendlies throughout pre-season and after a successful trial period, she has officially signed ahead of the 2024/25 FA Women’s National League campaign.

O’Neill has a wealth of experience from Leicester City Reserves and within the FAWNL, with previous spells at Long Eaton United, where she was voted the Manager’s Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season during the 2021/22 campaign, helping the club to a fourth-place finish at the time.

After spending a brief time with Posh at the start of the 2023/24 campaign and taking some time to travel, the defender returned to her previous club, Sheffield FC, last season.

“It’s really exciting, I can't wait to get started already,” O’Neill said. “I really enjoyed my time at Sheffield - I’m not really one to pinpoint different bits, I take every game as a big moment.”

O’Neill is pleased to make her return to Posh Women: “I think the ambition, everything they have and the set up is so good here- it really exciting to think what’s to come.

“I knew Jake from years back so I have a lot of respect for him and that made the transition easier - I want to do as much as I can for the team to get forward and push on.

“I really enjoyed pre-season as I knew a lot of the girls - they’ve all been really welcoming.”

Manager Jake Poole said: “I’m pleased to bring Alex back to the club. We have a player with strong experience at this level, as well as a great trainer and person to have in our squad.”
