Posh under 18s concede late to slip to defeat at Crewe Alexandra.
The Peterborough United under 18s put in a resolute display against Crewe Alexandra in the Professional Development League on Saturday but were undone by late goals as the Railwaymen secured a 3-0 victory.
Posh goalkeeper Jake West produced a number of good saves in the first half to keep the score goal-less but a combination of a lack of quality in the final third and wasteful finishing prevented Jimmy Unwin’s side from taking advantage at the other end.
Crewe opened the scoring in the 75th minute and added two more goals before the conclusion of the game as Posh committed bodies forward to try and get back into the game. Unwin said there were positives to take from the performance ahead of this Saturday’s scheduled fixture with Hull City at the idverde Training Ground.
Unwin said: “I was pleased in the first half, we showed some good outcomes to get into the final third, but then lacked a bit of quality and then we were reliant on Jake West making some good saves at the other end.
“In the second half, we defended well up until the 75th minute and then a lapse in concentration allowed them to open the scoring and from there, we were pushing to try and get back into the game and they scored again, which made it game over.
“There were definitely areas where I can see improvement over the last few weeks, but lapses in concentration is something that you can’t legislate for, the lads have to remain focussed for the entire game. For us it is a learning process, we go onto our fixture with Hull on Saturday,” Unwin said.
