Spalding United v Posh

Darren Ferguson's men eased to a comfortable victory over Spalding United with Cian Hayes netting his first goal in Posh colours.

Over 1,300 fans were present at the Sir Halley Stewart Stadium to watch Peterborough United record a comfortable 7-0 victory over Spalding United with summer signing Cian Hayes netting his first two goals for the club following his move from Fleetwood Town.

Ferguson once again named two different XIs for each half and it was Jacob Wakeling who was the star of the show in the first 45 minutes, netting twice, although the latter may have stroked the boot of the lurking Ricky-Jade Jones.

WAKELING opened the scoring with a classy left-foot finish across the keeper and the second goal was similar in terms of the location of the effort with JONES claiming the final touch from close-range.

George Nevett fired over after a marauding run while Chris Conn-Clarke fired straight at the goalkeeper as Posh dominated possession.

Conn-Clarke produced a superb flick into the path of Jones on 39 minutes, but the goalkeeper made a decent stop.

A minute later, the home side came close to pulling a goal back but Jed Steer produced a fine stop with his legs to keep out Lewthwaite.

HAYES saw a shot deflect wide of the target inside the opening two minutes of the second half before he did find the net, tapping home from close-range after a fine move which involved Donay O'Brien-Brady and Abraham Odoh.

Posh made it 4-0 on 65 minutes and it was HAYES again, nipping the ball past the advancing goalkeeper before rolling the ball into an empty net.

On 72 minutes, it was 5-0 as striker Malik MOTHERSILLE got his name on the score-sheet as he fired home from inside the box after good work from Hector Kyprianou.

David AJIBOYE made it 6-0 as he raced onto a clever Hayes pass and rolled the ball past the keeper via an apparent deflection before Joel RANDALL scored the goal of the game, cutting inside onto his right-foot before firing an unstoppable shot past West and into the top corner.
