Jake Poole bolsters his defensive options with fourth summer signing.

Peterborough United Women are delighted to announce the signing of defender Emily Sharpe from Loughborough Lightning Women, ahead of the 2024/25 FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands campaign.

The 32-year-old has been part of Loughborough Lightning since 2021, having previously represented Loughborough Foxes before the two teams merged. The defender made 66 appearances for Lightning in the first two seasons of the club.

Sharpe is looking forward to starting a new chapter: “Initially what attracted me to the club was seeing that Jake had been appointed - he’s a coach that I’ve admired for years.

“I’ve known him from being in similar circles and I was really excited to have a conversation with him. We sat talking for a long time and it’s clear we’ve got similar ambitions. I’m friends with Katie as well and she sold the club to me - I’m just really excited to be involved in a club that’s got huge ambition.

“The points Jake made about his ambition, his culture and the environment that he wants to create, really struck me morally.”

The defender is keen to get started and not one who likes to take a break over the off-season: “I would describe my style of play as energetic. I defend from the front foot and I like to attack as well- I have a loud voice, I’m a leader on the pitch and I’m strong.

“I just want to make an impact really- that’s my biggest aim. I want to play as many minutes as I can, really help the team and hopefully find a few special moments as well.”

Poole said: “Emily is a player that comes with great experience and knowledge of the level, she’s been a big leader at her previous club for sometime and her qualities on and off the pitch will be a huge addition to us.”

General Manager Sam Winch said: “Sharpie is another fantastic addition to our side and one that will really complement the rest of the squad.

“Her experience and knowledge of the game will be pivotal this season and I'm looking forward to seeing her developing those around her on the pitch.

“In line with the recruitment strategy we set out at the start of the season, Emily is someone that will continue to develop our new club culture and will have a positive influence on and off the pitch.”
