Jed Steer saved two penalties as Posh secured a play-off spot with a 4-1 victory over Fleetwood Town at the Weston Homes Stadium.
If there was fantasy football in Sky Bet League One, having goalkeeper Jed Steer between your sticks on Tuesday night would have secured you a plethora of points. Two penalty saves, one in each half, an assist and a number of other saves throughout the 90 minutes secured him the Man of the Match award on a bit of a crazy night in PE2.
Fleetwood, battling for their lives towards the foot of the division, opened the scoring inside 20 seconds without Posh touching the ball as Bosun LAWAL fired a low strike into the bottom corner of the net from 20-yards.
It was a stunning start from the Cod Army and they had the chance to double the lead on nine minutes as Ronnie Edwards upended Omochere in the box. Omochere stepped up to take the spot-kick but Steer produced a fine stop.
On 17 minutes, Posh got themselves level as excellent wing play from David Ajiboye saw him beat the full-back and deliver a low cross, which was turned in from close-range by Mallk MOTHERSILLE for his first league goal.
Joel Randall saw a curler blocked by the defender before Harrison Burrows rifled a shot wide of the target. Ephron Mason-Clark saw a shot blocked by Johnston on 41 minutes before the referee brought an end to the first half.
Mason-Clark produced a fine save out of Lynch a minute into the second half after a lightening start to the half with Ronnie Edwards heading wide from the resulting set-piece.
Kwame Poku saw a shot shovelled away from danger by Lynch on 61 minutes before the visitors were awarded a second penalty after a foul by Josh Knight.
Lawal stepped up but was again kept out by the impressive Steer diving to his right. On 80 minutes, Posh got their noses in front as Ricky-Jade Jones and Jonson Clarke-Harris battled well in the centre circle with the latter flicking the ball forward for the onrushing COLLINS who calmly slotted the ball into the corner.
Fleetwood hit the post direct from a corner on 88 minutes and Steer kept out substitute Quitirna with his legs. Eight minutes of added time was indicated by the fourth official with Poku testing Lynch at one end before Steer kept out Omochere's header from close-range.
Posh got a third goal from a long punt forward from Steer, which was misjudged by the defender allowing CLARKE-HARRIS to race clear and drill the ball into the bottom corner. Moments later, CLARKE-HARRIS was at it again, tapping home from close-range after good work from Mason-Clark.
