Malik Mothersille scores against Wycombe Wanderers

A late goal from Richard Kone earned promotion-chasing Wycombe Wanderers a point at the Weston Homes Stadium.

Football can be a cruel game sometimes. Yes, Peterborough United only have themselves to blame for squandering chances in front of goal, but the late equaliser from Richard Kone that earned Wycombe Wanderers a point was not only fortuitous in the way the ball arrived at his feet, but the management also felt the goalscorer was two-yards offside.

Even then, Posh should have won the game as substitute Ricky-Jade Jones somehow side-footed wide from close-range after good work Abraham Odoh and Tayo Edun.

On the first half performance in particular, Posh were definitely the team in the ascendency, opening the scoring on 13 minutes as Odoh was felled in the area by Josh Scowen allowing Malik MOTHERSILLE to coolly convert from the spot.

Bradley Ihionvien saw a shot deflect wide of the target after good work from the forward to win the ball back while Cian Hayes had appeals for a spot-kick turned down by referee Scott Oldham after marauding his way into the box.

Kyprianou was denied by Will Norris on the stroke of half-time before Jed Steer produced a big save with his legs to keep out Udoh in stoppage time.

Kone smashed a shot against the post five minutes into the second half and also headed wide from a corner kick as Wycombe pressed.

Kwame Poku made his return to action on 73 minutes, receiving a fine ovation from the home crowd in the process.

Poku saw a shot blocked after a poor clearance from Norris while the goalkeeper kept out a fierce drive from Mothersille.

Two minutes into stoppage time, KONE rifled home the equaliser after Leahy's free-kick had initially been blocked. A minute later, Jones side-footed wide after Posh produced a fine move with Odoh and Edun involved.
