Joe Taylor netted a brace as Posh U21s claim three points at Hillsborough.
Peterborough United U21s secured a 3-1 victory over Sheffield Wednesday U21s at Hillsborough on Monday afternoon in the Professional Development League, with Joe Taylor bagging a brace and Kellan Hickinson netting a wonderful goal.
Matthew Etherington’s side got off to the perfect start on four minutes as Will Van Lier advanced forward before sliding the ball into Joe Taylor inside the box and his left-footed effort found the bottom corner.
A loose pass from Sheffield Wednesday saw Corbett collect the ball, he spotted the goalkeeper and tried an ambitious lob from distance, but it went well over the bar. Will Blackmore was called into action for the first time on 19 minutes, pushing Sheffield Wednesday’s number seven effort around the post.
The Owls brought the game level on 31 minutes as a free-kick from the edge of the box was hugely deflected into the back of the net. However, Posh quickly reinstated their lead just two minutes later as Oluwabori’s cross from the right was headed away but only to Hickinson on the edge of the box, his low-driven effort found the bottom corner.
Posh were forced into an early change as Van Lier picked up a knock and was replaced by Luke Harris on 43 minutes. Oluwabori had a good opportunity in the early stages of the second half, but sent an effort wide of the far post.
Corbett’s corner was dropped by the keeper and fell to Oluwabori at the back-post, his effort deflected wide before the Trialist saw his header straight into the keepers' hands. Posh should have extended their lead on 62 minutes as Corbett’s chipped ball into the box found Taylor completely free, but somehow sent his header wide of the post from six yards out.
Taylor had another golden opportunity shortly after as Oluwabori whipped in a cross from right-hand side and found Taylor once again, but guided his header wide of the post. Posh extended their advantage on 82 minutes as Corbett sent a low free-kick into the box and Taylor was there to poke home at the near post.
