Posh scored twice in stoppage time, but it was not enough to take anything from the game as Wigan Athletic ran out 3-2 winners.
Peterborough United suffered a first league defeat since the previous meeting with Wigan Athletic as Shaun Maloney’s men completed the double over Darren Ferguson’s men with a 3-2 victory at the Weston Homes Stadium.
Posh were 3-0 down against the ‘Tics’ but scored twice in stoppage time to set up a bit of a tense finale for the visitors, but unfortunately, time ran out and the side from Lancashire headed back north with all three points.
In the first 20 minutes, Posh got themselves into some good positions after some excellent football, but a combination of good defensive blocks and wasteful finishing let them down. Hector Kyprianou fired over, Archie Collins did the same while goalkeeper Tickle produced a superb stop to keep out Joel Randall and then stood tall to keep out debutant Olakigbe.
However, it was the visitors who opened the scoring from their first clear-cut opportunity as AASGAARD fired home from 10-yards. Multiple players from the visitors went into the books for fouls and dissent before Nicholas Bilokapic kept out Godo after patient play in the box from the visitors.
On the stroke of half-time, Jones glanced a header wide after a fine cross from Olakigbe as Posh went into the break behind. Burrows fired over from long-range moments after the re-start while Jones fired over on the volley before the visitors added a second as MAGENNIS appeared to get the final touch to an Aasgaard effort from the edge of the box.
Kyprianou received his ninth booking of the campaign for a shirt tug before Mason-Clark fired over with a first-time effort. Matt Smith was cautioned on 65 minutes and got a second yellow on 71 minutes for a foul.
Wigan added a third on 82 minutes as AASGAARD tapped home after good work from the substitute Humphrys. Five minutes of added time was signalled and Posh pulled one back when Josh KNIGHT poked home from close-range.
Moments later, Posh had another back as JONES fired into the roof of the net from close-range and it was backs to the walls for the visitors from then on, but Posh couldn’t carve out another chance and slipped to defeat.
