Peterborough United Under 18s will wrap up their pre-season preparations with a trip to Huntingdon United this afternoon (1pm).
Jimmy Unwin’s side will face the Hunters this afternoon (1pm), before the season kick-starts with an opening day clash against Colchester United; respective friendlies versus Wingate & Finchley, Crystal Palace Under 18s and Norwich City Under 18s helped to fulfil the pre-season schedule.
Unwin confirmed that he will have a near-complete squad available, albeit given the involvement of a number of players who will participated in the First Team’s double-header with Notts County yesterday.
FROM THE MANAGER
“I’m pleased with where individuals are, not satisfied with where the team is, there’s lots of work to do defensively, especially on transition, we need to be better in those moments – tomorrow will be a good chance to practise from different things to what we did against Norwich. We’re playing against men so it makes it different physically for the boys and there will be different obstacles for them to try and overcome.
“We dominated the ball in both games [Crystal Palace and Norwich City], with Norwich it wasn’t a 6-2 game but we gave away silly goals in key moments which made the scoreline more flattering on them – we’ve got to be better so we don’t concede goals and make sure we have a bit more rhythm and own the ball more.
“We’re not solely based upon results. We’re about developing players, and they will get minutes so it’s down to them to take them. When I have looked at it back [Norwich performance], there were loads of positives to come out of it. Again, with the Palace game and even going back to Wingate & Finchley where we had mixed squads, there were loads of positives to come out of it and individuals that done themselves no harm really so it’s just about getting that winning mentality back into the boys – hopefully we can do that tomorrow.”
The fixture will take place at Jubliee Park, Kings Ripton Road, Huntingdon PE28 2NR. There is also a family fun day so gates open at 12pm and close at 5pm.
