Peterborough United Under 18s were defeated 2-0 by Burnley at the Barnfield Training Centre this afternoon.
Jimmy Unwin made one alteration from last time out, Andre Changunda came in to replace Bolu Shofowoke who was set to start in his place, but pulled out of the squad in the warmup as a precaution.
Posh started the afternoon in the ascendancy, Andre Changunda fashioned an opportunity early on when he drove infield and tested Felix Chester who done well to parry away the former’s effort.
Unwin’s side continued to push and went close on 25 minutes when Eddie Fox was found with space inside the hosts’ penalty area, but the midfielder’s shot was well-blocked by a Burnley man.
Benjy McWilliams-Marcano looked to steer his effort goalwards before the break when Max Beech picked him out at the back post, but he mistimed his headed effort and Chester collected the ball comfortably.
The match was more stretched in the second period, Benji Wetshi linked up well with Zach Johnson but his tame effort failed to trouble Ben Westcott.
Burnley broke the deadlock on the hour mark when Johnson’s delivery was helped all the way in by the wind to provide the hosts with the lead.
Posh responded well, George Holley was upended inside the penalty area but, despite the appeals, the man in the middle waved away any complaints.
Johnson was at the heart of it again five minutes later when he bundled the ball home from close range to double the hosts advantage.
Substitute Patryk Sykut came close when he tried his luck from distance, but Chester had quick reactions to save low to his left.
On 74 minutes Posh had two quick opportunities, Sykut and Joe Davies had their respective efforts denied by the Burnley stopper once more.
Wetshi then had an opportunity late on to add a third, but Westcott saved well and the Clarets ran out 2-0 winners in Lancashire.
