preview under 18s

Peterborough United Under 18s return to Professional Development League action on Saturday (11am) as they travel to Bristol City.

Posh Under 18s will be searching for a second win of the new campaign when they face the Robins on their travels to Bristol this weekend.

Jimmy Unwin’s side will be keen to build on a positive performance last time out in the cup, after picking up a point at Mansfield Town at the RH Academy, with his side being in the ascendancy for large spells of the match.

Saturday’s opponents also claimed a point in a dramatic eight-goal stalemate with Swansea City, a late Robins equaliser saw the spoils shared in South Wales.

Bristol City, like Posh, have only tasted defeat once so far this term, this came in a 3-1 defeat to Burnley last weekend. Unwin similarly suffered defeat for the first team this season when Millwall hit Posh for six in PE2 last Saturday.

THE OPPOSITION

Bristol City came runners-up to Charlton Athletic in Group B last season; Trevor Challis’ side achieved 20 victories, 2 draws and seven defeats in the league, whilst enjoying a further cup run to which the Robins were eliminated by Manchester City in the Semi-Finals of the FA Youth Cup.

City have replicated their form into this season, though, as they sit fourth largely thanks to back-to-back victories against Crewe Alexandra and Barnsley respectively to open their account for the season.

TEAM NEWS

Lead Coach (U18s) Jimmy Unwin says he has a clean bill of health - besides the two long-term absentees - heading into Saturday’s clash. Davon Gbajumo remains available after he missed the Millwall fixture due to the full-back nursing an ankle injury.

FROM THE MANAGER

“We’re looking forward to it. It should be a good game – a really tough test for us, they’re always good; they produce good players and are well known for it so we’re looking forward to the test.

“We have analysed the game from Mansfield, large parts we were really pleased with, it was the end product and attacks which we knew that we didn’t complete the job in that sense, but we’ve been working on it during the week and the patterns of play to get us into those positions so hopefully we take a few chances on the day.

“We drew with Swansea so it will be a good barometer to see where they’re at, and we’re at so it should be an even game; hopefully we put in a good performance like we did at Mansfield where we owned the ball for large periods, which we’ll be looking to do again but by adding the finishing touches in the final third," Unwin said.

Updates of the game will be available on The Posh Academy X account, with post-match reaction also on the website.
