Under 18s

Peterborough United Under 18s will look to make it two wins on the bounce as they make the trip to Swansea City today (11am kick-off).

A trip to Swansea City awaits for Peterborough United Under 18s, who will continue their Professional Development League programme with a trip to Wales.

Jimmy Unwin’s side ran out 3-1 winners against Colchester United last time out, with Bolu Shofowoke and Lucca Mendonca (2) on the scoresheet as Posh recorded a perfect start to their PDL campaign.

Today's challengers, meanwhile, also claimed three points on the opening day as the Swans defeated last year’s play-off runners-up, Barnsley.

The last time the two sides met at Landore, the hosts claimed victory in a well-contested matchup in SA6. This time, under fresh management, Posh will look to rectify the honours in Plasmarl to set them up nicely for the Millwall encounter next Saturday.

THE OPPOSITION

Swansea concluded the 2023/24 season with 11 wins and just the one draw, which cemented them an eighth-placed finish in Group B under Jarred Harvey, who joined the Swans in January and led the Welsh outfit for the latter part of the season.

In this time, Swansea fell to defeat to Millwall in the Under 18s’ PDL Cup Final, but a run of good form across February and March saw the Swans distance themselves from the bottom spots.

FROM THE MANAGER

When speaking ahead of the fixture, Unwin said: “I’m looking forward to trying to build a bit of momentum with the boys, and have some of them who missed out on starting on Saturday to try and make an impact with the minutes they get.

“It helps [Colchester performance] brings confidence, and hopefully we can see them do it often so it becomes a habit; we’re just trying to get the most out of all the boys so that we can push on before the Under 21s start – the best ones will get opportunities with them.

“It’s one game at a time, to see what happens and see where we can teach the boys some aspects of the game. We had some that were not the best [against Colchester], but we’ve worked on that this week and hopefully the boys put it in place against Swansea.”

Unwin was reassured that the injury concerns from Saturday shouldn’t warrant concern: “Both have been through the physio assessment [Ben Westcott and Bolu Shofowoke], they’re fine and available for tomorrow’s game. We have a clean bill of health really, it’ll be the same group that turn up tomorrow and hopefully put on a similar performance.”

The fixture will take place at the Landore Training Ground in Swansea.
