Posh Under 18s slipped to defeat on Saturday afternoon after Kleven De Olivieria’s strike sent Sheffield Wednesday home with the points.
Peterborough United Under 18s lost out by the odd goal on Saturday morning as Sheffield Wednesday rallied back from Andre Changunda’s first half spot-kick.
Today’s captain slotted the ball home from the spot midway through the first half, but De Olivieria and Liam Clayton were on target after the break to send the points back to South Yorkshire.
Jimmy Unwin opted to make one change from the defeat at Sheffield United last weekend, with Tom Unwin coming in to replace Davon Gbajumo, who suffered a knock during the week.
The visitors were pinned back from the outset, Bolu Shofowoke continued to prove a threat in-behind, leading appeals for a penalty early on when the front man was upended inside the area – with no luck.
Our first opportunity on goal arrived on nine minutes when Joe Davies squared a ball to Shofowoke, with the front-man unable to turn the ball home.
Wednesday failed to grasp control in the early moments, and Shofowoke would continue to use the left-side as an outset to attack, striking the woodwork moments later.
CHANGUNDA stepped up from 12-yards to give Posh a deserved lead on 21 minutes, after the referee pointed to the spot following George Holley’s mazy run.
Wednesday looked for a reply, and it almost came eight minutes from the break when Ari-Jae Shaw pounced on Ben Westcott’s spilled delivery – missing an unoccupied net.
The visitors started the second period with impetus, causing issues to our backline as Harris Lihe sent an effort wide.
Despite Jimmy Unwin’s side having some success in moving the ball through the midfield line, CLAYTON read the move well and stabbed the ball home shy of the hour mark.
Posh responded well - looking to make ground back up - but Noah Freeman’s dipping effort fell well wide.
The momentum continued to shift, with Wednesday on top this time around as Westcott was equal to Kailen Hatfield’s strike.
Our youngsters were left with work to do on 65 minutes when OLIVIERIA handed the visitors the lead on the follow-up after a smart initial stop from Westcott.
Patryk Sykut then picked up possession 20-yards out, twisting and turning his way through a crowd of bodies before eventually testing Logan Stretch.
Wednesday came close to putting the game out of sight soon after, with Westcott called into action once more.
Posh continued to plug away but - much to the story of the afternoon – Shofowoke had an effort turned away by Stretch.
The visitors had a foothold in the remaining minutes, and Clayton had the last sight on goal when his effort was cleared onto the crossbar by Noah Freeman.
