A late goal from Eddie Fox served as consolation as Swansea City took the points back to Wales in the first competitive Under 21 fixture of 2025.
A whirlwind second period saw Kyrell Wilson and Thomas Woodyard on hand to give the visitors a comfortable lead before Fox looked to fuel a comeback when the midfielder struck late on.
Swansea looked most threatening in the early exchanges with Aimar Govea having the first sight on goal two minutes from the first whistle.
The visitors continued to pile on the pressure when Sebastian Dabrowski forced Bastian Smith into a smart stop with a well-taken free-kick.
Davon Gbajumo worked an opening for David Kamara on 17 minutes after the full-back found the path of the front man who couldn’t adjust his footing in time to fire at goal.
Glory Nzingo was next to let fly but his effort was well-stopped by Smith before Govea’s dipping effort landed wide of the mark.
Down the other end, Kamara pounced on a loose ball and looked to pick out the bottom corner, but his effort was shovelled away by Kit Margetson.
Kamara looked to breach the Swansea backline, but Margetson was equal to the finish which was tipped onto the post.
Swansea was indebted to the woodwork once more on the hour mark as Kamara pushed for the opener.
The deadlock was broken on 68 minutes as WILSON found the back of the net, forcing his effort past Smith.
Kamara looked to find a route back into the game when his effort from 25-yards was collected comfortably by Margetson.
On 82 minutes Maliq Cadogan was next to strike the woodwork as the visitors looked to put the seal on the victory and they did so moments later as WOODWARD tapped home at the back post to double the Swans’ advantage.
FOX offered some respite with one minute left on the clock when his attempt took a nick of the Swansea defender and trickled in, but the Swans held out to take the points back across the border.
