Kai Corbett was on target and made the other goal, but the Posh under 21s were beaten at Fleetwood Town.
The Peterborough United under 21s suffered a narrow 3-2 defeat at Fleetwood Town on Tuesday afternoon in Professional Development League action with Ryan Semple’s men showing plenty of grit and determination to put themselves into contention for a point after finding themselves 3-0 down before the interval.
The Cod Army made a positive start to proceedings at Pool Foot Farm and opened the scoring through Kyle White before doubling their lead as Sam Glenfield found the back of the net. Posh twice went close before Fleetwood made it 3-0 through White again.
After the break, Posh carved out numerous opportunities and reduced the arrears when the impressive Kai Corbett curled a free-kick over the wall and into the back of the net. Moments later, the deficit was down to just one as Corbett picked out Donay O’Brien-Brady who made no mistake.
Corbett struck the crossbar from another excellent free-kick while the Fleetwood goalkeeper made a string of saves to preserve the three points for the home side.
Manager Ryan Semple said: “We gave ourselves a mountain to climb by going 3-0 down, but the lads fought well after the break and on another day, we probably could be reflecting on a point or even more as we created some good chances, hit the bar and their keeper made some good stops.
“However, you can’t expect to take something from the game when you go 3-0 down. We didn’t defend the goals well enough; we didn’t stop the crosses or defend our box well enough. There were positives to take in terms of the way the lads responded, but obviously things we need to improve on as well.”
