Striker Jacob Wakeling has joined Gillingham on a season-long loan deal.
Peterborough United front man Jacob Wakeling has agreed a season-long loan to Sky Bet League Two side Gillingham with the former Swindon Town man completing the formalities in Kent ahead of the weekend.
Wakeling had an injury-hit campaign last term after moving ahead of the summer transfer deadline, but has hit the ground running in pre-season, scoring goals in the friendly matches.
Manager Darren Ferguson said: "I think this is a really good move for Jacob. It proved really difficult for him to get game time last season, we spoke about the fact he couldn't play in the cup, which didn't help so he couldn't get any rhythm and then he picked up an injury.
"He has come back in pre-season and looked good, he looks sharp and he has scored goals in the friendly matches. We spoke to him as we felt the next stage for him was to go out on-loan and play regular football. Gillingham see him as a striker, which we feel is his best position.
"We felt that it would be difficult for him to play week in, week out with the competition, of course he could have got himself to the front of that queue, but I think this suits all parties.
"He is a lovely lad, I think Gillingham will be around it at the top end of the division, so it makes sense for him to go there," Ferguson said.
Good luck Jacob!
